Ronald Huneycutt Obituary

Mr. Ronald James "Ronnie" Huneycutt passed away, following a long and tedious battle with Alzheimer's disease, on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 in Albemarle, NC.
A native of Stanly County, NC, he was the son of Clyde and Carrie Huneycutt who preceded him in death.
Mr. Huneycutt was a 1965 graduate of North Stanly High School and a 1967 graduate of Wingate Junior College.
In the Winter of 1968 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, he wed Christina Barbee (also a Stanly County native) with whom he shared his life for 53 years.
Mr. Huneycutt retired from the USPS as a Rural Mail Carrier (Mill Hill Office). As a "mailman," he considered all the people on his route special and tried to provide them with the best possible service.
During his free time he was dedicated to community activities and politics. A former member of the Millingport Volunteer Fire Department, Mr. Huneycutt assisted with teaching and hands-on learning for young children and adults regarding fire safety. He served on the Stanly County Land Use Committee, Airport Committee, and Board of Adjustments. Mr. Huneycutt was an engaged member of the Republican Party and assisted with local level campaigns.
He enjoyed life's small pleasures: riding with the top down, Motown and The Beach Boys, playing Santa Claus, being on the farm and watching the cows, frequenting Southport, NC, and spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Huneycutt is survived by: wife, Christina B. Huneycutt, of the home; daughter, Amee H. Odom and husband Dr. C. Brian Odom, of Wingate, NC; special fur baby, Dumplin, of the home; brother-in-law, Hilton Barbee, of Oakboro, NC; niece, Kristie B. Nixon, of Summerville, SC; and great-niece, Danielle A. Huber, of Melbourne, FL.
Mr. Huneycutt's family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of the Spring Arbor Memory Cottage for their continuous care, love, and support.
Mr. Huneycutt will lie-in-state from 12 noon - 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The graveside service, officiated by Mr. Kevin Winchester, MFA and Reverend Dr. Shad Hicks, will be on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 17236 Frog Pond Road, Oakboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (17236 Frog Pond Road, Oakboro, NC 28129), Spring Arbor of Albemarle (315 Park Ridge Road, Albemarle, NC 28001), or Union County Library Foundation (316 East Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112).
Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Huneycutt family.

I remember Ronnie well from our time at NSHS together. He was an extremely well liked person and a good athlete, a good sportsman that played his heart out, even through discomfort. I'm sorry that he had difficulties during his later years.
He had my total respect.
RIP, old Friend.
