Ronald Hunton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Darby Funeral Home - Canton on Mar. 14, 2025.
In Loving Memory of Ronald "Ron" Hunton
August 31, 1958 – March 13, 2025
Ronald "Ron" Hunton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated law enforcement officer, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Born on August 31, 1958, in Marietta, GA, Ron was the son of Josie V. Sullivan Hunton and Olin Hunton.
From the young age of 18, Ron answered the call to serve and protect, committing 41 years to law enforcement. His career began with the Powder Springs Police Department, followed by service with the Cobb County Police Department. He later dedicated many years to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, before retiring as Chief Marshal with the Cherokee County Marshal's Office. Throughout his distinguished career, he was a steadfast protector, leader, and mentor, deeply respected by his brothers and sisters in law enforcement.
Beyond the badge, Ron found his greatest joy in his family and the simple pleasures of life. He loved working on his farm in Alabama, riding his beloved horse, J.W., and cherishing time with those he held dear.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Gravley Hunton of Euharlee, GA; son Jason Hunton (Rachael) of Rome, GA; daughters Amanda Kay Brown (Steve Cooper) of Zebulon, GA, and Michelle Lynn Schmucker of Euharlee, GA. He also leaves behind his beloved mother, Josie V. Hunton of Centre, AL; brother Don Hunton (Judy) of Collinsville, AL; and six grandchildren: Anistan Doyle, Cassie Doyle, Logan Hunton, Wyatt Hunton, Elizabeth Cooper, and Aurora Schmucker. He will be lovingly remembered by his nephew, Chad Hunton (Jennifer), and niece, Tempie Stoddard (Phil).
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 12:00 PM Central Time at Lookout Mountain Cowboy Church, located at 2974 County Road 22, Collinsville, AL 35961.
Ron's legacy of service, love, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His watch is over, but his impact will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Ron. We'll take it from here.
