Ronald Jackowitz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home on Sep. 5, 2024.
Ronald "Ron" Jackowitz passed away Sunday, September 1st, 2024, after having resided in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts for ten years after spending all his prior years in New Jersey.
He was married to Jackie Jackowitz, who was also a Sussex County resident. They had been married for sixty-three years. Their children, Todd and Tobi, both graduated from Pope John High School, where Ron coached JV basketball in his spare time. Ron leaves five grandchildren, William Jackowitz, Annie Jackowitz, Elizabeth Jackowitz, Megan Russell, and Kevin Russell.
Sussex County was where he accomplished most of his goals, although he built and owned a successful Professional Search firm with his partner, Joseph Carris, for forty years. During this career, Ron served as Mayor of Andover Township and managed to plant the seeds for starting Sussex County Community College and received a feasibility appointment to start the college in 1979. In August of 1981, he became the first chairperson of the college commission and served from 1981 to 1983.
Working with Upsala College, his Alma Mater, Ron obtained Associate degrees via a transitional program with the college. In the evenings, he attained his Master's Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1999, and then taught an evening business course at Centenary College of New Jersey.
The latter part of his life in Shrewsbury, he was active in the Senior Men's Group and the Memory Café at the Shrewsbury Senior Center. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.
Calling hours will be from 9 – 11 AM on Monday, September 9, 2024 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 AM and will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will be held privately for his family.

In conversation with Ron he always seemed so interested in the person he was conversing with rather than having the conversation about himself.

Ron made a podium for Andover United Methodist Church´s outdoor service as a surprise, even though he was Catholic. A dear friend who will not be forgotten by Barrie and I!

Ron was an exceptional human. He excelled at all he did, in a friendly manner. He played college basketball in the 50´s and headed up a successful Executive Recruiting firm in the 70´s and 80´s, when I met him, prior to his entering local politics in his home state of New Jersey. He and his wife Jackie, raised an exceptional family. No doubt, he´ll be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him. R.I.P., Ron!!
