Ronald Kegley Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 19, 2025.
Ronald Frederick Kegley, a beloved grandfather and friend, has found peace at the age of 81 following a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in West Virginia in 1943 to Frederick Alton Kegley and Marethia "Ricky" Mae Kegley nee Perdue, Ron led a storied life. His family eventually settled in Baltimore County where he graduated from Kenwood High School. While drafted into the Army and serving at Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Ron married the love of his life, Karen Schafer nee Kegley. Soon after, they had their daughter Vicki and the family moved back to Baltimore where Ron worked as a machine operator for Western Electric.
A dedicated curmudgeon, Ron never failed to show how much he cared while also trying to rile you up. He was always ready to have a beer and talk cars, classic movies, sports, or argue about current events. He was well-read and well-reasoned, as quick with a story as a counterargument to enliven any conversation.
Retiring to Ocean View, Delaware, Ron and Karen enjoyed their final years together before her passing. His commitment to caring for his wife during her prolonged struggles with Alzheimer's was a testament to his character and deep love for his family.
Ron is survived by his grandchildren: Pete Hicks; Jacob Hicks and his fiancé Joseph Atkinson; and Benjamin Hicks and his wife Marissa Hicks, as well as a wealth of friends, family, and loved ones. He is pre-deceased by his parents, his wife Karen, daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Pete Hicks, and his brother Larry Kegley.
A celebration of life was held at 3:00 on Sunday, May 18th at the Sussex County Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ocean View, Delaware.
He will be interred with his wife at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Baltimore County, Maryland.
