Ronald Koenigs entered into Heaven on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 81. Ron was born October 28, 1943, in Adams, Minnesota, to Thomas and Mildred (Gilgenbach) Koenigs. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Marian Huntley-Lickteig and Catherine Koenigs. He is survived by his brothers, John, Fred, Richard Koenigs; and sister, Theresa Harding.
Loving husband of 52 years to Theresa (nee Slavens), whom he married on April 16, 1966, in East Moline, Ill. She died on March 16, 2019, and cherished father of Nancy (Al) Evans, Dan (Deanna) Koenigs, James Koenigs, and Rhonda Turner; beloved grandfather and great-grandfather to many. Uncle, cousin and Mr. Ron to many.
Ron had served in Korea during the war. Ron and Theresa built their lives in Cambridge, Ill., and were very devoted to their Catholic church. Ron worked for Case International Harvester until his retirement after 33 and a third years. Ron had a passion for football, with the Minnesota Vikings holding a very special place in his heart. In his spare time, Ron found enjoyment in spending time outdoors gardening and camping. Ron was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. Ron's greatest source of happiness truly was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services in Cambridge, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., on Friday, June 6, 2025, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Cambridge, Illinois, with Fr. Chris Haake and Fr. Ghislain Inai officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, with military honors by the Galva Fusiliers following the funeral mass. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Ambulance Service or the Hook and Bullet Club.
