BENNINGTON- Ronald H. Loomis left this earth in his flannel shirt on the evening of Friday, June 24th after a brief illness. Ron spent his last days at home surrounded by his loving family. Those who knew and loved Ron can tell you endless stories of his love for animals, food, hunting and fishing, the Red Sox and his family. No one ever left his house hungry, as long as they made sure to take their hat off at the dinner table. His loved ones will dearly miss his always present smile, smart remarks, his "love ya", hugs, his ham soup, dried-beef-gravy, and home-made whipped cream.
Ron was born at home in the "Red brick house" in Paper Mill Village on March 28,1941 to LeRoy and Mae Loomis (Lee). He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Florence Loomis (Harwood) and their sons Donald (Darcy), Ronald Jr. (Lisa), Lee (Tammi), Ricky (Kathy) as well as their grandchildren who were his pride and joy and who adored him endlessly; Gabrielle (Adam Scarey), Fletcher (Elizabeth Buckley), Cassidy (Andre Remus), Jonna (Aaron Jelley), Noah (Madison Smith), Hayleigh, Shea, Justin, Braemon, Corbyn, and Quin. He is also survived by his siblings Robert Loomis (Cheryl), Joyce Williams, Jackie Harrington (Phil), and Dennis Loomis (Virginia). He was predeceased by his parents and multiple siblings.
His family reminisces together today on some happy memories and advice given to them over the years. Ron was often known to offer his granddaughter's money for new pants when they arrived with ripped jeans, to warn people not to get wet when they got in the pool, and provide relationship advice that made you crack up. Ron made sure the family animals were well cared for; taking them on rides to the Post Office, feeding them leftovers, and giving them all the love. He often told tales of how best to train the animals, or how the animals best trained us. At hunting camp he made sure everyone came back to a warm breakfast, and on the sidelines of his grandchildren's sporting events, activities, concerts, proms, etc., he was always present and cheering them on. He was known to ride around in his golf cart to feed his fish and birds, and collect black caps to eat with milk and sugar. Some famous lines of Ron's include "The squirrels are looking for you because you're nuts", "stay out of my kitchen", and "do what you want you want, you're going to anyway". Ron lived a life full of wonderful memories and great stories, and he will be deeply missed by all that knew him. His family imagines he is somewhere rocking on a porch with his animals by his side, admiring the wilderness around him.
Following in Ron's wishes, there will be no formal services. The family would like to invite Friends and Relatives to "The Barn" at the Bennington Elks Lodge #567 for a Celebration of Ron's Life, from 5pm till 7pm on Wednesday, June 29th, 2022
If friends should desire, contributions in memory of Ron may be made to Bayada Home Health through the office of the Mahar Funeral Home, 628 Main Street Bennington, Vermont 05201
