Ronald MacLagan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2026.
Ronald "Ron" James MacLagan of Pierceton, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the age of 79.

He was born on November 29, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois to Elaine Caroline (Rein) MacLagan and Ronald "Scotty" Richie MacLagan. He graduated from Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Illinois and earned his Bachelor's degree from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Ron received his Master's in Education from Iowa State University and continued into a career in education serving as Principal and Superintendent at multiple locations in Iowa and Idaho.

Moving around throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling the United States. At one point in his life he lived in Anchorage, Alaska and worked for Japan Airlines. Ron was always very outgoing and friendly and was able to start a conversation with anyone he met, great qualities to have when he ventured into a new career path in sales of school supplies.

An avid outdoorsman, Ron filled his life with great days spent golfing, camping, and enjoying the water. For the past 35 years, he happily called Pierceton home, enjoying the many lakes of Kosciusko County, where he loved nothing more than being out on the water. Ron always had a great fondness for cats, especially his Bruce who held a special place in his heart.

He leaves behind two sons, Ryan MacLagan (Woodbury, MN); Brent (Melissa) MacLagan (Iowa City, IA); and three grandchildren, Skye, Jack and Amara. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ron's life will be celebrated with a memorial visitation from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
