Ronald William Meyer, age 87, of LaSalle, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Hampton Manor of Dundee.
Ron was born May 13, 1936 in Ridgeville, Ohio, he was the son of Ferdinand and Augusta (Panning) Meyer. Ron met Barbara Ann Pfund at the Bathgate Farm on North Custer, it was love at first sight, they were then married June 19, 1971 at Zion Lutheran Church, Monroe.
He enlisted in the US Navy February 8, 1954, at the age of 17 and served during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge May 3, 1957.
After being discharged he worked for General Dynamics in San Diego, while there he designed a wiring harness that helped launch the first rocket into space. He then went on to work at General Motors Powertrain in Toledo as a skilled trade supervisor, retiring after 33.5 years.
Ron was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for many years, he also served as a Trustee.
He loved to watch all sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and any game that his children or grandchildren were playing in. He also enjoyed spending time up north at his cabin in Johannesburg, MI.
Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Barbara Ann (Pfund) Meyer; four children, Randy (Melinda) Meyer, Terry (Fran) Meyer, Denise Meyer and Ron (Jackie) Meyer; nine grandchildren, Heather, Kortney, Josh, Kalin, Amanda, Alyssa, Nicolas, Zachary and Nolan; nine great grandchildren, Isla, Nia, Colton, Kalvin, Khloe, Sophia, Declan, Addison and Holden.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dale Meyer and four brothers.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe. He will lie instate at Grace Lutheran Church Tuesday May 14 at 10 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Mark Witte, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Monroe, with military honors provided by VFW Post 1138 and the US Navy.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dale Meyer Memorial Endowment Fund.
