Ronald Steven Mikus, 82, of Edenton, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Mr. Mikus was born in Chicago, IL on December 15, 1943, and was the son of the late Andrew Mikus and Frances Bowers Mikus and husband of the late Samantha Clayton Mikus.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked as a conductor with Norfolk Southern Railroad. Known as “Papa” to all of his grandchildren, Ronald enjoyed spending time with his large family, being outdoors, fishing and being on the water. He was the “cook” of the family, especially known for his meatballs, goulash, Italian sausages, and brownies. In his later years, once he stopped driving, he loved being outside, riding his scooter.
Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Lalonde Mikus of Chicago, IL and Sherri Ann Mikus of Edenton; four sons, Ronnie Mikus and his wife, Kristen of Edenton, Steven Mikus and his wife, Amber of Greenville, Billy Mikus and his wife, Ashley of Tyner, and Robert Mikus and his wife, Rebecca of Tyner; two sisters, Beverly Coderre and her husband, Bernie and his twin, Sandy Jesse and her husband, Jack; two brothers, Richard Mikus and his wife, Ellen, and Roy Mikus and his wife, Karen; nineteen grandchildren, Michelle, James, Cody, “Lil” Ronnie, Faithlynn, Madelyn, Haley, Lucy, Clayton, Dillon, Robbie, Rosalynn, Reagan, Nolen, Declan, Dominick, Samantha, Juliet, and Michael; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Raymond and Rodney Mikus.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 30th at 10:30 am at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton with Pastor Josh Engen officiating. Interment will be private.
