Obituary of Ronald Joseph Moore
Ronald Joseph (R.J.) Moore, 73, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away March 1, 2024.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with a memorial service to begin at 1:00 p.m.
R.J. was born February 5, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa and lived in various locations as he experienced juvenile and foster homes eventually taking him to Fairfield, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1969, going on to achieve a Bachelor of General Studies in 1990 and a Graduate Degree in Urban and Regional Planning in 1992, each from the University of Iowa.
R.J. Served in the US Army from November 1970 to February 1972 stationed at Cam Ranh Bay RVN from June 1971 to February 1972. For many years R.J. served as an active advocate for veterans at county and state levels.
R.J. is survived by his wife of 54 years, Colleen McIntire Moore, his daughter Jennifer Moore (David) O'Donnell and grandson Kael O'Donnell; son Joshua Moore, granddaughter Katelynn (William) Harrell and R.J.'s 9 month old great granddaughter Penelope Jade.
R.J. cherished his family, including his sister and his siblings through marriage, his nieces, and nephews, his bonus son and family, and Michelle Day, Danielle and Delaney Kasper. His relentless pursuit to reconnect with his baby sister led to a beautiful and enduring relationship.
R.J.'s home always had an open door, no one was a stranger for long, and he welcomed and enjoyed good food, fun, and conversation with family and friends. As a Lifelong fan of the Yankees, the Packers, most golf, and Iowa State and University of Iowa football and basketball, television was always tuned to the sports channel.
His legacy, marked by love, perseverance, and advocacy, will be remembered by all whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace, leaving behind memories and a profound impact on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.

I am very sorry to learn of RJ's passing. He left a "forever" mark on land use in Johnson. All who live here are in his debt. It was my privilege to have known him and work with him. J. Patrick White
