Ronald Priebe of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at the age of 87. Originally from Beloit, Wisconsin, Ron graduated with a bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University and a master's degree from the University of Illinois, both in Mechanical Engineering. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy.
Ron earned his Professional Engineering license, and in 1970, he moved to North Carolina with his family where he became a career professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC). Ron taught Mechanical Engineering at UNCC for 49 years and earned the highest teaching position of Associate Professor. During the course of his tenure, he helped build future generations of engineers and mentored many of his students who went on to become successful colleagues with a shared passion for the profession.
Ron loved to play volleyball, delighted in working on and restoring 1968-70 AMC AMX cars, and enjoyed being an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; his son, John and his wife, Jenny; his daughter, Michelle and her husband, Dave; his two granddaughters, Katie and Carly; and his older sister, Pat Torphy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at noon at Ascension Lutheran Church located at 1225 East Morehead St. in Charlotte. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with a burial immediately following at Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ascension Lutheran Church in Ron's memory.
