Ronald "Ron" Louis Rizzo, age 77, passed away on March 11, 2026.
Ron was born in Washington, D.C., to Olga and Charles John Rizzo. As the son of an Air Corps family, he spent part of his childhood living overseas in Japan and France before eventually settling in Silver Spring, Maryland, which he always considered his hometown. Following the passing of his father, his mother remarried A.H. Levin, bringing together a blended family.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Rizzo, and his siblings Joni (Keith) Levin-Clarke and Gordon (Judy) Levin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olga Rizzo and Charles John Rizzo; his stepfather, A.H. Levin; and his sister, Judy Ganz.
Ron was known by all who met him as one of the kindest people you could ever encounter. Neighbors and friends often spoke of his quiet generosity; he would help anyone in need without hesitation. He had a gift for conversation and could talk for hours, making instant friends wherever he went. After his passing, it became clear just how deeply he had committed himself to helping others. Even during times of personal hardship, Ron continued to show up for those in need, guided by a deep and unwavering belief in taking care of others.
Ron had a deep curiosity about the world. He loved space and astronomy, enjoyed keeping up with current events, and remained a loyal fan of his local sports teams. But above all, his greatest pride was his family.
He was a devoted father to Ryan (Carrie), Robyn (Greg Gallimore), and Jonathan (Rachel), always just a phone call away with thoughtful advice and steady guidance. As 'Poppy' to his five grandchildren -Aaron, Tyler, Shay, Kylie, and Hayes - he was adored for his kind and giving nature, especially when it came to snacks and sweets.
Ron also cherished time spent with close friends, particularly sailing at Clinton Lake or embarking on memorable sailing trips to the Virgin Islands, experiences that became the source of many great stories shared over the years.
Later in life, Ron demonstrated extraordinary strength and devotion, caring for those he loved withquiet resilience and unwavering commitment.
A special place in Ron's life was held by his beloved dog, Snickers. Originally brought home as a companion for Linda, Snickers quickly formed a close bond with Ron and became his constant companion.
Professionally, Ron began his career working in perfusion and heart valves at the University of Kansas Medical Center under Dr. William Reis as a heart and lung perfusionist. He later discovered his passion for medical sales, becoming one of the original ten salespeople at Cerner, where his successful and impactful sales career began.
Ron was also an entrepreneur at heart. Alongside his cherished friend and long-time neighbor, he cofounded
Star Cleaners, a business that became central to the Rizzo family's life for nearly two decades. It was more than a business; it was a place where family and community came together. All his children, along with Greg and Rachel, were part of Star Cleaners, making it a true family endeavor. Ron used Star Cleaners as a meaningful way to give back, often providing first job opportunities to countless local kids. Through this, he instilled values of hard work, responsibility, and commitment. He had a special place in his heart for these young people and supported them however he could, including helping some pursue college, something he deeply believed in.
True to his nature, Ron did not want a traditional funeral. Instead, he would have preferred what he valued most, bringing people together. A celebration of life will be planned soon, where family and friends can gather, share stories, and honor the remarkable life he lived. Details will be shared once arrangements are finalized.
Ron's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to others. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
