Ronald E Robbins, 85, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Brickyard Care Center in La Porte, IN.
He was born May 31, 1939 in Beech Grove, Indiana, the son of William Francis Robbins and Cleo Gertrude (Wade) Robbins.
A graduate of Decatur High School in Illinois, Ronald married SammyAnn (Latch) Robbins on July 10,1960 in Decatur. After spending time in Merrillville, he and Sammy moved to the La Porte area 30 years ago. Ronald's professional life was marked by dedicated service to Federal Mogul Corp, where he retired as a machinist. An avid traveler, Ronald enjoyed trips to Arizona and across Canada in his camper with his family, creating countless happy memories that would last a lifetime. More recently, weekends often revolved around camping trips, complemented by a cold Miller Light beer. He treasured the time spent riding around on his four-wheeler with his granddog, Pixie, exploring the trails and fields that brought him such peace and satisfaction. Ronald was a devoted member of the Izaak Walton League Chapter 7, Michigan City, where he loved fishing and sharing stories with his buddies. He was a hardworking individual, always busy and always dedicated to maintaining his apartment building in Valparaiso. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Ronald is survived by his son, Mark "Smiley" (Vicki) Robbins of La Porte, IN; sister, Mary Jean Short of Mooresville, IN; two sister-in-laws Melinda TomLinson of Kenosha, WI, Margie Shonkwiler of Decatur, IL; two nephews, Steve Short, Donald Short; cousin, Adrianne Rankin of Phoenix, AZ, and granddog, Pixie.
Ronald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, SammyAnn, who passed away on February 11, 2024; his parents, William and Cleo; step-father, Cy Young; brother, Bill Robbins; brother-in-law, Charlie Short, and nephew, Chuck Short.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will host a gathering of family and friends, memorializing both Ron and SammyAnn, on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ronald and SammyAnns's name to the La Porte Small Animal Shelter, 2855 IN-2, La Porte, IN 46350.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Brickyard Healthcare on I Street, La Porte Indiana, and Dunes Hospice for their dedicated care.
