Ronald B. Roop Sr.

Ronald Roop, age 91, of Spring Lake, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, peacefully at home.
Ron was born in Detroit on Feb. 24, 1932, but most of his youth was spent in the Grand Rapids area. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. Ron carried the sadness of the loss of his first cousin, George McNamara, who died in a POW camp during the Korean War.
He was an avid reader and a motorcycle enthusiast. Ron traveled to most of the states attending motorcycle rallies. Ron was an honorable man who loved his large, blended family. He will be missed.
Ron's daughter, Debra Fitzgerald, preceded him in death in 2016.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Katherine; children, Robynne (James) Goodrich of Custer, S.D., twins, Suzanne Roop of Kentwood and Sherry (George) Hall of Belmont, Ronald B. (Kelly) Roop, Jr. of Nunica; stepchildren, Lisa Angus (Mickey Bruursema) of Grand Rapids, Todd (Sally) Rutledge of Marne, Mark Rutledge and fiancée, Lonna, of Grand Haven; 11 grandchildren; 4 step-grandsons; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-granddaughters; sister, Sally Townsend, of Wyoming; and sister-in-law, Louise Kohle, of FL.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Interment to be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Arrangements are by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home of Holland.
