A resident of
Bend, Oregon since 1996. Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Ron attended Passaic High School in Passaic, NJ and Rutgers University with a degree in accounting, and NYU, Stern School of Business for an MBA. He also served in the military with the Naval Reserves where he spent two years on a cruiser and was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War stationed on the east coast in special services.
Ron was a CPA for 70 years, he had his own practice in New Jersey, moved to Los Angeles and was associated with a firm in Beverly Hills for many years. Then, he went into private practice. Ron was appointed to the tax forms committee for the AICPA (American Assn. of CPA).
Ron started playing the piano at 4½ years of age. He loved music. Classical slowly went to jazz and jazz became everything. He was an accomplished musician. He had his own band in high school and also played the Bass. Through the years, Ron played wherever he could just for the fun of it. He was with the Notables and the COCC Jazz Band in Bend.
Ron was very athletic in his day. He had a boat and water skied, snow skied, rode motorcycles, was a private pilot, did beautiful woodwork and could fix anything. He and Bonnie traveled the world and did many exciting things. Ron did a lot of volunteer work. After living in Tarzana, CA for years, he and Bonnie moved to
Bend, OR and Ron became Treasurer of many organizations. He and Bonnie took 2 groups of WW2 and Korean Vets to DC for the Honor Flight. Ron was a ham radio operator, helped direct traffic for the Christmas Parade downtown. Wrapped Christmas gifts every year for seniors. He also volunteered at Project Connect. He was also on the Bend Airport Commission. Ron took his keyboard to Touchmark Memory Care and played for the residents. He said they came to life when they heard music. He also spent 10 years with Tax Aide doing taxes at the Bend Senior Center as a volunteer, where he was the only CPA there and so may depended on him. Ron taught advanced accounting classes at Farleigh Dickinson University, UCLA, CSUN, Santa Monica City College, among other institutions.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Bonnie, 2 sons from his first marriage, and their wives, 1 granddaughter, and 3 step-children. He was predeceased by an infant son and his step-daughter.
He was a remarkable, loving, caring gentle man. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication and passion in helping others. A private burial was held. The family requests memorial donations be made to Partners in Care Hospice in
Bend, OR.
