Ronald Britt "Ron" Swymer

Ronald Britt "Ron" Swymer, 69, of East Palatka, passed from this life on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Landstuhl, Germany, to Thelma and Lee Swymer. Ron graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1973, where he was a star football player. He obtained his bachelor's degree from The University of The South in Sewanee, Tennessee, where he played both football and baseball. He later obtained his master's degree from the University of North Florida.
Ron enjoyed a long and rewarding career in Human Resources, retiring from corporate Publix in January 2023. He most enjoyed the sunsets on the St. Johns River in East Palatka, Florida, where he and his wife, Susan, have resided for last 10 years.
He is preceded in death by both his mother and father, sister, Patsy Seay, and brother, John "Buddy" Blalock.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Swymer of East Palatka; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Melissa Swymer of Orlando; granddaughter, Tinley; sister, Linda Nemecek of St. Augustine; nieces, Cheryl English of Jacksonville, Tammy Hallman and Kim Hancock, both of St. Augustine; brothers-in-law, Mark Stanton of East Palatka and Chris Stanton of Hastings. He is also survived by his dear friends, Warren and Terri Winters of West Green, Georgia, Phil and Darnell Sieg of Douglas, Georgia and Paul and Melinda Geda of Flagler Beach, Florida.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. C.L. Overturf Jr. officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 2 p.m. until time of services.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177.
