Ronald Travis was born on October 3, 1937 to Ella and V. K. Travis in Port Arthur, Texas. He passed away on February 23, 2026 at the age of 88. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Ronald’s life was one defined by hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family and community.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles Travis, Bill Travis, Vernon Travis; sisters Marie Patterson, Allora Smith, Irene Elmendorf and Kolene Sewell; his son Billy Travis; and grandson Eric Miller.

Ronald graduated from Central High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee; he got his bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and his Masters Degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas

Ronald began his career at just 10 years old working on his parent’s farm in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. At 14 years old he worked alongside his brothers, Charles and Bill, at Travis Brothers Hardware. His commitment and work ethic quickly made him an integral part of the family business, and he eventually became a co-owner, contributing to its success for many years.

In addition to his work in the hardware industry, Ronald dedicated 25 years of his life to education, teaching in both the Nederland and Port Neches-Groves School Districts. His impact as a teacher extended far beyond the classroom. Many of his students stayed in touch with him for over 60 years, a testament to his ability to inspire, guide, and form meaningful connections with those he taught.

Ronald had many passions that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He was an avid fisherman, and some of his most treasured memories were spent on the water. An accomplished handyman, Ronald had a knack for restoring houses to their former glory with patience, skill, and a steady hand. He restored over 40 homes and apartments with the help of his sons and wife. He also loved spending time at his family “mansion” in Jasper, where he enjoyed the peace of nature and the company of friends and family.

Above all, Ronald cherished his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather; and his family meant the world to him. His warmth, generosity, and sense of humor were constants in the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will live on through his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the many lives he touched.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 46 years Nicki Travis; Sons, Steve Travis and Gary (Jamie) Travis; daughters, Linda Travis, Cathy (Mahlon) Moore; and Babette (Jason) Parthum; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service for Ronald at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity.

Ronald’s family would like to thank Stonewood Hospice for their excellent care, especially Brooke, Dustin, Justin, Hailey, Destiny, Keili, and John.
