Ronald Harrison Wassom entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He was one week shy of his 79th birthday.

Ron loved a good story, and his story is certainly one of the best. Ron was a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force, finishing off his illustrious 25 year career at the Federal Center in Battle Creek. He could have chosen to live anywhere in the world, but being an avid sportsman he settled in Michigan, saying there was no better place on God's green earth to hunt and fish. He and his wife Jackie hosted wonderful dinners featuring the fruits of his labor, proudly declaring with a wry little smile that he was with everything on the table when it died.

After retirement, Ron continued serving our country as a private contracting officer for the federal government. In 2004, at great personal risk, he bravely worked in several dangerous locations in war-torn Iraq.

Education was of the utmost importance to Ron. He taught business classes at Davenport College. His vision for a preschool that emphasized the sciences was formed in partnership with his in-laws Paul and Nancy Rheaume. For 14 years, they successfully operated the popular ABC Preschool in Battle Creek. Some of his most humorous stories came from that endeavor.

Ron was a long-time member of the Battle Creek AMBUCS, a service club that raises funds for scholarships for physical and occupational therapists. He held several leadership roles in the organization over the years and could be counted on to pitch in on its various projects whenever needed. Ron served as a warm, friendly ambassador always making guests and new members feel welcomed.

He was a member of Cedar Creek Bible Church for nearly 20 years. Again, his dedication to education is demonstrated by his wish that in lieu of flowers, donations in his name be made to the Cedar Creek Bible Church earmarked for the classroom expansion project.

Ron is survived by his loving wife Jacklyn, and devoted sons Brian Wassom, and Brady (Melanie) Wassom and their daughters Mariele and Lea.

Ron was a true patriot – he loved these United States of America. He always put service over self. His legacy and story will long be remembered by all who knew him. God speed, Ronnie... and hook 'em horns!

Arrangements for Ron are being handled by the Williams Gores Funeral Home in Delton. Services will be held at the Cedar Creek Bible Church, 9123 Cedar Creek Road, Delton, MI 49046 on Monday, August 18. Visitation will be at 10a, memorial service at 11a, and lunch to follow.
