In Loving Memory of Ronan
Ronan was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him - full of heart, humor, and boundless curiosity. Born at home, in water, in San Diego, his entrance into the world was peaceful and powerful - much like his spirit. His name, Ronan, means "little seal" in Irish and "song" or "joy" in Hebrew - both fitting reflections of the life he lived and the love he gave.
From the beginning, Ronan had a fierce spark and a tender soul. He was drawn to water in all its forms - the beach, the pool, the bath and would have happily soaked for hours if we let him. He was a true original: a lover and a fighter. One moment he'd be snuggled in your arms, soaking up back scratches and sweet words, and the next, he'd be striding by with a mischievous grin, throwing a playful punch to remind you who was boss.
He adored his big brother and always wanted whatever he had - not just his toys, but his attention, his love, and his approval. His family was his world, and nothing made him prouder than being helpful. When asked to do something, Ronan would dash off with a smile and return with his eyes lit up, saying, "Here you go, Mommy!"
Ronan was endlessly curious, especially about creatures with teeth, fangs, and venom. Snakes, sharks, and reptiles fascinated him. He devoured books like Who Would Win?, memorizing facts and flipping pages with purpose. He had a favorite color - red - and loved to draw perfect rainbows, always making sure to stay in the lines. There was a touch of perfectionism in him, evident in everything from his careful artwork to his Magna-Tile masterpieces.
He loved food - all food. He had the appetite of a grown man and the courage to try anything, even sauerkraut. If it was edible, Ronan would eat it, and he'd probably ask for more.
At his recent preschool graduation, Ronan was awarded "Best Handwriting" - a moment of pride that captured his determination and confidence. His teacher shared how he'd often say, "That's pretty good, but I could do better," never harshly - just knowing he could always grow. That was Ronan: bold, funny, strong-willed, and full of heart.
His hugs, his giggles, the way he melted into you when he snuggled - these are the things that will echo forever in the hearts of those who loved him. Ronan may have only been here for 4.5 years, but he lived with a presence that felt bigger than life. He changed us. He taught us about joy, resilience, tenderness, and how deeply a child can love and be loved.
And we will carry that love always.
Ronan is survived by his parents, Dara Kerr and Cathal Kerr; his brother, Charlie Patrick Kerr; his grandparents, Eileen Kerr (Momo Eileen), Charlie Kerr (Papa Charlie), Pat Feldman (Grammy), and Bruce Feldman (Poppop); and a wide circle of family and friends who cherished every moment with him.
