Ronnie Creig Hyman, son of the late Rev. Dr. Lossie Jackson Hyman, Sr. and Jessie Mae Williamson Hyman, was born on September 17, 1952, in Florence, South Carolina. He peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Ronnie’s educational journey began at Olanta Training School in Olanta, SC, and continued at Carver High School in Lake City, SC. He pursued higher learning at Benedict College and Florence-Darlington Technical College. He dedicated many years of service to the South Carolina Forestry Commission prior to retirement.

Ronnie was a resident of the Savannah Grove Community in Effingham, SC.

Affectionately known as “Pops”, Ronnie was a man whose vibrant spirit and warm presence brought joy wherever he went. His life was anchored in kindness, loyalty, and love for his family and friends. He was a loving husband, a proud and nurturing father, a cherished grandfather, and a loyal comrade to many.

Ronnie’s legacy is one of quiet strength and gentle wisdom. Whether sharing stories on the porch, lending a helping hand, or offering heartfelt advice, he did so with humor, humility, and grace. His laughter was infectious, his hugs genuine, and his heart always open.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Ophelia Hyman; his brother, Lossie Jackson Jr. (Nancy); and his sister, Elizabeth Carol Hyman.

Ronnie leaves behind a loving family to honor his memory: his wife, Christie Bines Hyman; his children, Dr. Jessica Hyman McCollum, Ron Hyman, and Cindi Hyman Henderson. Through his children, he gained additional sons, LeVance McCollum and Bernell Henderson, and a daughter, Grace King. His grandchildren—Shatiya Wakefield, Veronica Hyman, Janiya McCollum, Christopher Hyman, Brayden Henderson, Jasmyn McCollum, Caleb Henderson, and Alyssa Hyman—were his pride and joy.

He is also remembered fondly by his brothers and sisters gained by marriage: District Elder Patricia Dixon (John), Woodrow Bines Jr. (Julia), Carl Bines, Mary Bines Robinson (Leroy), and Elaine Bines Baker (Leroy), along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Ronnie’s impact on his community was both deep and enduring. He lived by the guiding principle: “If I can help somebody along the way, then my living will not be in vain.” And help he did—through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to others.

Though he has journeyed on from this life, Ronnie’s spirit remains ever-present in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy lives in the stories we share, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.

We will miss him dearly, cherish his memory always, and continue to walk in the light he so graciously shared. Indeed, his life was not lived in vain.

Family will receive friends daily from 4 PM - 7 PM at 2506 Whipporwill Road, Effingham.
