With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronnie Wayne Overstreet Sr., who left us peacefully on November 8, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on April 4, 1947, Ronnie, affectionately known as "Weeze" to many, spent his life building not just structures, but friendships and memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew him.
Ronnie was a dedicated contractor and the vice president of D.J.'s Ground Maintenance, always finding joy in the work he did, particularly with heavy equipment. He had a knack for bidding contracts with the State of Alabama and ALDOT, always embracing the challenges that came his way. But his true passion extended beyond work; it was in the great outdoors, hunting with family and friends at his two beloved clubs-R W Overstreet Hunt Club and O.O. Hunting Club, where he often made memories alongside his nephew, Keith.
A quintessential family man, Ronnie truly lived for his beloved wife Deanna and their children. Their love story was a vibrant tapestry woven over nearly six decades, recently celebrated on November 9th as they marked their 59th wedding anniversary. Deanna was not just his partner but also his confidante; he continually left love notes for her, a testament to their unwavering bond.
Ronnie grew up in a large family and shared a special closeness with his siblings, and though he is the last of them, we take comfort in the thought that they are all reunited now. His vivacious spirit matched his love for dancing; if you knew Ronnie, you could count on him to bring the "Alma Shuffle" to any gathering. He was a natural host, known for his incredible cooking-a true culinary talent who could grill, fry, can, and preserve. His home was a hub for gatherings filled with laughter and delicious feasts.
Throughout his life, Ronnie remained devoted to his faith as a lifelong member of Perry's Chapel United Methodist Church, finding profound meaning in the Walk to Emmaus, which his wife affectionately referred to as his saving grace. His cherished friendships, especially with Lynn and William Payne, held a brotherly place in his heart, a testament to the welcoming and sociable persona he was known for.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, Condy and Willie Overstreet; daughter, Leslie Overstreet Hayes; siblings, Elwood & Louise Overstreet Sr, C.W. & Carolyn Overstreet, Ralph Overstreet, Mildren & Raymond Young, Willine & James McDonald, James & Jerry Overstreet, Armon Overstreet, Woodie & Reba Overstreet, Voncile & Bill Echols, and Gerald Overstreet Sr; as well as sisters-in-law, Faye Pringle, and Margie Overstreet.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Deanna Jones Overstreet; son, Ronnie "Ron" Overstreet Jr; grandchildren, Katie Ferrell (Cordell), Sara Overstreet, and Brennan Overstreet; great grandchildren, Cayden Ferrell, Greyson Ferrell, and Brelynn Ferrell; sister-in-law, Mavis Overstreet; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson on November 11, 2025. The public is invited to attend the visitation beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. Ronnie will be laid to rest shortly thereafter in Perry's Chapel Cemetery, surrounded by the love he shared with so many.
