Ronnie Drew Sayer, born on July 4, 1941, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Drew and Leona Sayer, lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and love. The middle of three children, he spent his early years in Baker and Salmon, Idaho, where his fearless spirit and love of flying first took shape-literally, when he jumped out of a barn as a child, hoping to take flight.
In Salmon, he met the love of his life, Sherry Stokes. They married in 1962 and spent 63 wonderful years together, building a family filled with love, laughter, and endless stories. Through every move-from Las Vegas to Salmon, Twin Falls, Alaska, and finally St. George, UT-Sherry was his steady anchor. She embraced his adventurous spirit, even when it meant enduring endless pranks, nerve-wracking flights, and unpredictable escapades. No matter where life took them, they faced it hand in hand.
Ronnie built a successful career with State Farm, first as an agent and later as a manager, but his greatest joy was his family. He was the perfect "Papa" to 23 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, setting the gold standard for love, fun, and mischief.
Alaska became his heaven on earth, where he thrived on flying, fishing, and boating. His Yentna River cabin became the heart of countless adventures, always shared with family and friends. In 2001, Ronnie and Sherry bought their retirement home in St. George, Utah, where he found joy in off-roading, always leading the way into uncertain terrain-just as he had in life.
A man of deep faith, Ronnie served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as a Bishop and a member of the Stake Presidency. His leadership, kindness, and adventurous spirit touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on those he served.
Even after a serious injury and later a stroke, Ronnie's humor and spirit remained unshaken. He passed as he lived-on his own terms, with one final laugh. His larger-than-life presence, unwavering love for his family, and boundless sense of adventure will be deeply missed.
Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry; his children, Ronnie Lynn (Hondo), Elizabeth Ann (Betsy), Troy Earl, and Robyn Sheree; his 23 grandchildren; and his 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Drew and Leona; his siblings, Beth and Steve; and his angel daughter, Angela Dru.
Dad, wherever you are, we hope you can fly. Flap your arms and jump.
