Ronnie Schagt Obituary
Ronnie Lee Schagt was born on September 7, 1954, the son of LeRoy and Lois (Weinbrandt) Schagt. Ronnie grew up near Schleswig, Iowa, on the farm. He graduated from high school in 1972 and enjoyed participating in the marching band and shop classes. He fulfilled his dream and went to Auto Body School in Sioux City, Iowa and received his diploma in 1974.
Ronnie had a lifelong passion for cars, especially his red and white Challenger, his pride and joy at the time he met Mary Alice. He enjoyed attending races and took great pride in watching his 1970 Nova compete. His love for classic cars was evident to all who knew him.
On February 14, 1975, Ronnie married Mary Alice Wendt, a day marked with both joy and sorrow, as it was also the day his mother passed away. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Jason Lee and Ryan Lyn. The family spent 15 years living on an acreage before moving to Carroll in 1995.
Ronnie worked in auto body repair for over 40 years, including 15 years as the owner of his own shop. In addition to his work in the shop, he raised fat cattle. He was known for his storytelling, playful personality, and the occasional shenanigan that brought laughter to those around him.
Ronnie passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the age of 70 years, ten months and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Dana Jorgensen; and parents-in-law, Marvin and Lillian Wendt.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Alice Schagt of Carroll; sons: Jason (Lynnsey) Schagt and Ryan (Sara) Schagt; eight grandchildren: Hailey, Christian, Rylie, Logian, Keigan, Devan, Morgan and Adam; sister, Jeannie Jorgensen; nephew, Christopher (Kimberly) Jorgensen; many other family members and friends.
His family will hold his visitation where family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Carroll First Church. His memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, also at Carroll First Church with inurnment in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Memorials may be directed to the family.
