Christensen Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services - SeymourRonnie Richard Smith, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, in Seymour, Indiana, at the age of 79. Born on April 8, 1946, in Brown County, Indiana, Ronnie lived a life rooted in simplicity and integrity, qualities that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A hard worker with an unwavering commitment to his family and faith, Ronnie was known for being honest to a fault, with his word regarded as his bond. He enjoyed an array of hobbies that reflected both his nurturing spirit and his zest for life. An excellent gardener, Ronnie took pride in cultivating the prettiest garden in the county, where blossoms flourished under his diligent care. His love for nature extended to hunting and camping, moments he cherished especially when surrounded by his beloved grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Ronnie was not only a talented carpenter but also an avid cook and griller, often inviting friends and family to gather around the table for hearty meals. His outgoing nature made him a true people person; he never met a stranger and always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Whether it was playing horseshoes at home or sharing stories by the fire, Ronnie's warmth brightened the lives of those fortunate enough to be part of his circle.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Billie Jean (Hollin) Smith, who was his partner in life and love. Ronnie’s legacy continues through his children: Mark Smith of Freetown, Indiana; John Fitch of North Vernon, Indiana; Craig Bell (Stephanie) of Crothersville, Indiana; Shannon Jones (Travis) of Freetown, Indiana; and Lynn Fitch of Scottsburg, Indiana; one brother, Roy Smith and his companion Nancy White of Nashville, Indiana. Additionally, he leaves behind 15 adoring grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his spirit in their hearts.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Silas Smith and Mable (Johnson) Smith; one son, Danny Smith; three siblings, Jack Ivan Smith, Donnie Smith, and Ruby Smith.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on April 11, 2026, at Spraytown Free Methodist Church in Seymour, Indiana. Friends and family are invited to gather at 11:00 AM to honor and remember the remarkable life of Ronnie Richard Smith. His legacy of love, hard work, and loyalty will forever resonate in the lives he touched.
