Ronald James “Ronnie” Smith, age 80 of Gatesville, passed away on March 2, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hemmeline Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ronnie was born on March 6, 1945, to the late Carroll and Eva Louise Smith. Ronnie grew up in Gatesville and attended the local schools before completing his G.E.D. at University High School in Waco. Ronnie worked for 30 years at Wolfe’s Wholesale Nursery in Waco. He loved all things connected to Gatesville schools, Texas A&M, and the First Baptist Church in Gatesville. Ronnie did not miss a Gatesville home football game for 51 years. Ronnie was well known for his memory of Gatesville games and statistics. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling, especially with his parents in the summer months to cooler locations.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Dale Smith, an uncle, J.D. Nottingham, an aunt, Joyce Mack, and numerous cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the organization of your choice.
