Roopa Rai

We are heartbroken to share that our beloved mother, Roopa Rai, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026.

Born in November 1947 in the Pink City of Jaipur, India, she emigrated to the United States in the late 1960s with her husband, Vishva Roop Rai. They started a family and made New Jersey their home for nearly six decades. Her 78 years were filled with an abundance of love that impacted the lives of everyone she encountered, and her radiant smile could light up any room.

She was a devoted wife to Vishva, a doting mother to Ajay, and a loyal friend to many. Her brilliant smile stayed with her loved ones right up until the end.

Mom cherished being surrounded by family and friends. She expressed her love through her cooking, and enjoyed hosting elaborate dinner parties for visiting family and friends. She had a passion for music-listening, singing, and playing the tabla. She found joy in gardening and lovingly knitted sweaters and blankets for loved ones. Even after moving to a group home, her zest for life never dimmed. She loved her daily walks to find coffee with friends and surprised everyone by signing up for the gym on her own initiative.

She is survived by her beloved son, Ajay Rai, and his life partner, Aparna Saha.
