Rosa Adams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by W E Hawkes & Son Funeral Home - Blackstone on Oct. 25, 2024.
Rosa Mae Adams was born on January 31, 1935, and passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Emma and Wallace Howerton and was raised in Blackstone, Virginia.
Rosa graduated from Luther Foster High School in 1953 alongside her future husband, William Earl Adams. They married in 1955 and soon welcomed their beloved daughter, the late Mary Darlene Gorham. Rosa furthered her education at the Piedmont Sanitary School of Practical Nursing, become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her career allowed her to work across the country while traveling with her husband during his Army service.
They settled in Forestville, Maryland where their home became a hub for family and friends, filled with laughter and countless memories. Rosa's dedication as a nurse shone through when she cared for her mother-in-law Dorothy Adams, who had Alzheimer's disease.
After becoming a widow, Rosa returned to Blackstone to live with her daughter Mary Dee, until her passing in 2019. Despite her losses, Rosa remained welcoming and cheerful, loving to eat and talk. A niece fondly recalls their times eating fried chicken and watching Westerns.
Rosa will be missed by all her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Sema Howerton (Thelma), husband William Earl Adams, and daughter Mary Darlene Gorham. She leaves behind her grandson George William Gorham of Washington, DC; her niece and caretaker, Terry Vanessa Robinson of Blackstone, VA; four nieces, Sherri Coates, Tamika Coates, Keesha Coates and Shonette Howerton; nephew Derrick Howerton, other family and friends.

WOW, IT ISN'T HARD TO TALK ABOUT A PERSON FROM THE HEART IF YOU KNEW AND DEVELOPED A RELATIONSHIP OVER THE YEARS. I MET ROSA IN 1981 THROUGH OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS. IT WAS FUN, LAUGHTER AND HER LEMON GLAZE POUND CAKE WEEKLY. THE ENTIRE FAMILY HAD A HEART FOR LAUGHTER AND GOOD OLD FUN. WOULD YOU BELIEVE ROSA, DEE, AND SER ADAMS MADE THEMSELVES LOVABLE AT ALL TIMES? FUN, FUN, FUN! WE EVEN JOIN THE AREA CHURCH TOGETHER. WHAT A TIME, WHAT A TIME. ADAMS, MY HUSBAND, DEE(MARY) BECAME DEACON IN TRAINING, DEACONESS IN TRAINING (ROSA ANDI ) TRUSTEE, SECRETARY IN A POSITION WITHIN THE CHURCH (ORGANIZATION, DEVELOPMENT, LEGAL GUIDELINES ETC.) JUST
LIKE COUNTRY FOLKS WE DANCED, AND PLAYED CARDS FOR FUN NO GAMBLING) WAS CHURCH MINISTRY LIKE FUN, NO. THIS THING CALLED CHURCH WAS AT TIMES FUN, BUT HERE COMES THE DEVIL, WHEREBY AT TIMES WE ALL HAD TO KICK BUTT, AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER DESPITE, EVERY WEEK WE COULD LOOK FORWARD TO THE GLAZE LEMON POUND CAKE. AND IF YOUR BIRTHDAY WERE ON A PARTICULAR DAY WE ATE POUND CAKE WOULD SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY. THE CLOSING SOUND WOULD BE KIRK FRANKLIN, NOTHING BUT THE STOMP, WITH ADAM LEADING THE STOMP LINE DUE TO HIS MILITARY TRAINING TAKE THE LEAD AS HE WOULD ALSO DUE WHEN THE CHOIR HAD A 3 SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH, IN WALKED ADAMS AND ONE OTHER TO GET IN LINE. THESE TWO DIDN'T MAKE REHEARSAL THAT SATURDAY. ADAMS AND STUART MARCHED WITH DIGNITY AND I LOOKED IN THE BACK OF THE CHOIR STAND AND ADAMS WAS SINGING, NO REHEARSAL, JUST SINGING. HE ARMETTA I DIDN'T KNOW THE SONG, STUART AND I JUST KEPT MOVING HER MOUTH.
