Obituary published on Legacy.com by D.M. Williams Funeral Home, Inc. - Rochester on Feb. 13, 2026.
Rosa Lopez was born on February 14, 1967 in
Brooklyn, NY, to Ana M. Fuentes and Jose Lopez. Rosa was Raised in
Philadelphia, PA and spent a short time in Puerto Rico before ultimately returning to New York.
As a child, she enjoyed playing hopscotch, double dutch, taking trips to the corner store and the movies. At age 14, she first started working as a lifeguard at a local recreation center. In her early adulthood, Rosa moved to
Rochester, NY. She became employed by the City School District, where she worked as a custodian for 27 years.
She enjoyed catering for church events and fundraisers. She loved planning parties and would hand-make decorations and invitations. She didn't hesitate to call and ask what to cook and how many people. She was sure to be early to every event as she did NOT play about being prompt. She also gave back to the community, often donating school supplies. She especially loved bingo and lotteria nights.
Rosa was the proud mother of seven children, and made sure they had a great childhood. She captured every moment on tape and often upgraded her tape recorder as she had to" keep up with technology, you know". She was Amazon's favorite customer and her porch was filled with packages; mostly for Felix because she did not play about him.
Rosa treasured her family with everything she had. From barbeques, camping, parties, soccer games, baseball in the summer and sledding in the winter; she always made sure everything was planned to perfection. Sunday dinners meant everything to her. She understood that food is the way to the heart and her fridge and freezer stayed packed. Rosa was the definition of "tradition" and now we've lost a big piece. Others often joke about how there aren't any "big mama's" around anymore but we got lucky because we had mommy, nana, titi Rosie and sister.
Rosa loved everyone as her very own and never switched up no matter how many years past. Once you were a part of her life you were locked in for life. She was predeceased by her parents, Ana M. Fuentes and Jose Lopez; her son, Mark Anthony Rivera. She leaves in loving memory, her children, Miquel and Shavon Alvarado, Tammalia and Marta Cruz, Andrew Roman and Felix Montanez-Fuentes; siblings, Sonia, Magali, and Luz Fuentes, Jose Nelson and Luis Lopez, 7 grandchildren; 12 nieces and nephews; 20 great nieces and nephews; and of course, her 2 dogs.
Rosa had a soul like no other. She was an amazing mother, nana, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. Rest easy beautiful-you will forever be missed and loved by so many. Until we meet again….
