Madison AL –Ms. Rosa Lee (Rooks) Lundy
With the heaviest of hearts, we announce that our amazing Mother, Rosa Lee Rooks Lundy, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, in
Huntsville, Alabama, surrounded by loved ones. Rosa was born on April 4, 1942, in Southampton County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Matthew W. Rooks Sr. and Mazina Peebles-Rooks, and the sixth youngest of 15 children in a blended family. Her most recent church home was The Relaunch Nation in
Baltimore, MD.
Rosa spent her early life in and around
Boykins, Virginia. She married Lloyd Lundy Jr. in November 1959. After migrating to
Baltimore, MD, with her husband, she was ultimately dedicated to raising 5 children as a single Mom. She worked numerous jobs, from manufacturing at Roper Eastern in MD to various food service and custodial positions, culminating in her retirement from the Maryland Howard County School System as a custodial supervisor. Rosa always placed family above all else. She continued to help raise and support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, serving as a force in their lives. She was kind and giving, with a heart so big you wondered how it fit in her tiny 4-foot-10-inch frame. Ever smiling and always having fun, she was a master storyteller of bygone times.
Rosa suffered the incredible tragedy of being preceded in death by two of her children, Cecil Lorenzo Lundy (November 1984) and Bridgette Denise Lundy (November 2020), and one grandchild, Howard Tavon Jones (2006). Brothers and Sisters also predeceased Ms. Lundy; Herman Rooks, Enoch Jones, Raymond "Rainbow" Rooks, Joe Henry Rooks, Rev. Matthew Rooks, Otis Lee Rooks, David Anderson Rooks, Frank Innis Rooks, and Sisters; Annie Mae Rooks Artis, Estella Write-Davis Rooks, Patricia (Pat) Mae Rooks Hayes, and Lucy Earline Rooks Bynum.
Ms. Lundy is survived by three children; Betty Ann Lundy of Huntsville AL, Glenn Arthur Lundy of Huntsville AL and D'Andre Lloyd Lundy of Baltimore MD, a brother; Tommy Earl Rooks of Baltimore MD and two sisters; Christine Peebles of Seaboard NC and Lillie Ann Rooks Elliott of Baltimore MD as well as 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces nephews and many friends who all loved her dearly.
Rosa possessed a boundless energy and passion for life. You couldn't help but smile when you entered the room, and she greeted you with that big smile and "Hey Baby!" Even as her energy waned, she always mustered the strength to sing some of her favorite soul music from "back in her day". She consistently charmed and amazed her medical team with her strength, tenacity and determination to "get up and get better".
Rosa will always be remembered for her strength as a dedicated mother who cared for 3 generations of children. She was a fierce woman, both hardworking and fun-loving, and a dear friend to almost everyone she met. If you were her friend, you were her family.
A remembrance service will be held on February 7, 2026, at the March Life Tribute Center in
Randallstown, MD, at 10:00 am with interment to follow afterward at Arbutus Memorial Park located in
Baltimore, MD. A public visitation is scheduled for February 6, 2026, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the March Life Tribute Center in
