Rosa Calvo Rodriguez went home to be with Our Lord February 20, 2025 in San Antonio, TX with her family by her side. She was 99yrs young.
Rosa was born November 25, 1925 in Guantanamo, Oriente, Cuba to Jose Manuel and Maria Calvo. She was born in a ranch home named 'Arroyon' which was her 1st love. She was the 4th child out of seven children. Rosa was raised in a very Catholic Christian home along with Catholic schooling where she developed her devout Christian Faith.
During these formative years, she grew to love and recite literature and as a result, competed and won the opportunity to do a radio broadcast of her favorite poet, Jose Marti, for "Los Zapaticos de Rosa" y "Cultivo una Rosa Blanca".
She worked in the family's pharmaceutical business as the Accountant, that gave way to a knowledge of medicine with an entrepreneur, fighting spirit. Whether travelling, working, participating in political discussions or dancing on the streets, it was all about family and with family.
Rosa met Rene Rodriguez Llano in 1958 and interesting enough, Rene was the older brother to her youngest sister's boyfriend. Within a year, she married her love of 66 years and welcomed their first child, a daughter, Carina Margarita. In 1961, they fled for safety to the "Land of Freedom", the United States of America. In a blink of an eye, her whole world changed drastically!! Her Faith allowed her to built a new home with two more children - a son, Rene Rodriguez, Jr. and another daughter, Lourdes Maria Rodriguez, learn a new language, and find a job as a seamstress.
Charming, sweet, delightful, peacemaker, high integrity, faith-building, hard-working, diligent, persistent, hopeful, dreamer, funny, trickster, intelligent, storyteller is few of the words shared by many that paints the heart of Rosa Calvo Rodriguez, wife, mother, friend, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and a Child of God, who now is home with Him.
Rosa is survived by her husband, Rene Rodriguez Llano, her children, Carina Rodriguez-Nejtek (Matthew Mark Nejtek), Rene Rodriguez, Jr. and Lourdes Maria Shannon. Her brother Gregorio Calvo (Julia), sister Nancy Rodriguez and sister-in-law, Gladys Calvo and brother-in-law Victor Rodriguez. Rosa has five grand children - Natalia Magistretti (Eugenio Magistretti), Analisse Shannon Skiles (Jake Skiles), Rene Rodriguez III (Keyler Rodriguez), Andres Rodriguez and Santiago Rodriguez. Rosa has five great-grandchildren - Pietro Magistretti, Giuseppe Magistretti, Maria Magistretti, Chiara Magistretti and Valeria Magistretti. Rosa is also beloved by many nieces and nephews.
Rosa is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and two Nephews.

Rosa and I were bonded as she was my sponsor when I made my confirmation. I couldn“t have asked for a better person to look up to. Kind, honest, hard working and a devoted Catholic who never judged me and always welcomed me with open arms.
Rest in piece!
