Rosa Rush Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kelsey Funeral Home - Albemarle on Oct. 14, 2024.
Our beloved, Mrs. Rosa P Rush, wife of Mr. Albert D Rush, entered eternal rest October 11, 2024. She passed away in the home in the comforting love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service to her family, students, and community. Born January 18, 1943 to the late Kenneth Paul and Beatrice Austin Pegues, Rosa was raised with strong values of faith, kindness, and a love for learning that would shape the rest of her life. Rosa represented all that was beautiful, and embodied the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Rosa's passion for education was evident from an early age, sailing through her early schooling in the Stanly County school system. Upon graduating from high school, Rosa pursued her education with unrelenting determination, beginning with attaining her cosmetology certification from Durham School of Cosmetology. Rosa's crafty execution in her practice earned her the presidency of Anson/Stanly Cosmetology Chapter 85. Later, Rosa attended Livingston College, Wingate University and the University of North Carolina, obtaining both a Bachelor and Master degree. Her academic journey was one of excellence, and she carried this drive into her teaching career, where she became an inspiration to countless students and colleagues. As an educator, Rosa was a guiding light in the classroom. She dedicated her life to nurturing young minds, believing deeply in the power of education to transform lives.
Rosa's dedication and affiliations include membership in the North Carolina Association of Educators and former chapter president of the National Education Association. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Ivey Chapter 126, and member of the Stanly County Art Council Guild. She was member of the Salisbury Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she served as chairperson of the Scholarship and Standards Committee.
Rosa was a life-long member of Bennettsville AME Zion Church, where she confessed and practiced her Christian faith. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, former president of WHOMS (Women's Home Overseas Missionary Society), church choir member and countless untitled amenities, as needed. She was an on hands person, always willing to go the extra mile and doing so with patience and compassion.
Rosa found the love of her life in Albert Rush, sharing a deep bond that carried them through life's joys and challenges. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising two children, and creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Rosa leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Albert Douglas Rush, Norwood, NC, her two daughters: Teresa Layezette (Michael) Little, Atlanta, Georgia and Avis Una (Christopher) Alston, Greensboro, North Carolina, four grandchildren: Rahsjah Little, Michael Little II, Christopher A Alston, and Simone Alston, three great-grandchildren: Jaxon Little, Avery Little and Harlem Alston, and a host of other family members and dear friends.
Though we mourn the loss of Rosa, we find solace in the many lives she touched and the love she shared with those around her. Her legacy as an educator, wife, mother, and grandmother will live on through the countless lives she impacted. It has been difficult to say good-bye, but we are comforted in knowing that she is safe at home in God's hands.
May Rosa rest in eternal peace, knowing that her light will forever shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
