Rosa Singleton, beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at her residence in Decatur, Texas, on August 9, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on October 10, 1940, in Ft. Worth, Texas, Rosa will be remembered for her warmth, culinary talents, and indomitable spirit.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16th, 2025 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Rosa dedicated many years of her life as a cook at K-Bobs, where she served delicious meals. Her passion for cooking was evident in her ability to bring family and friends together around the table, sharing not only food but also love and stories that would be cherished for generations.Rosa was a proud mother and grandmother, leaving behind a loving family who will carry her legacy forward.
She is survived by her daughters, Ester Rivera and husband Alberto of Chico, Elaine Norris and fiancé Michael Nixon of Ft. Worth, and Lisa Greene and husband Chris of Decatur; a son, Carlos Singleton and wife Brenda of Benbrook; as well as 15 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Rosa also shared a close bond with her three sisters, Connie Muga and husband Luis, Beatrice Valencia and husband Robert, and Helen Gil Cabral; and her brother, Ernest Gil. In addition, she was surrounded by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Gil, Sr., and her mother, Victoria Gutierrez Gil; her husband, Ezell Singleton, Sr.; her son, Ezell Singleton, Jr.; her daughter, Dolores Beaver; and four brothers, Jesse Gil, Jr., Ramon Gil, Sr., David Gil, and Daniel Gil.
Rosa Singleton’s legacy of love and resilience will remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all those whose lives she touched. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Rosa’s caregivers who loved and cared for her as their own, LaWanda Johnson McAlister (deceased) and Stacy Arce.
