Rosalie Marie Messersmith, 64, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at her daughter's residence. She was the wife of Barry L. Messersmith. The couple would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in January. Rosalie was born in York on July 3, 1961, daughter of the late Mervin L. and Ruth H. (Harrison) McKinsey.
Rosalie was a graduate of William Penn Senior High School. She began her career at the Yorktowne Hotel and later became a sous chef at Normandie Ridge and Colonial Manor Nursing Homes, where her passion for cooking truly shone. Rosalie loved spending time outdoors, tending to her yard and enjoying nature's beauty. Affectionately known as "Momma Rose," she quickly became loved by everyone she met.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Nicole Messersmith, and her other half, Jay Long, of York; three granddaughters, Jalyssa Carulli and her husband, Jayson, of El Paso, TX, Elaina Martin of York, and Aleah Martin of York; a great-grandbaby on the way; two brothers, George McKinsey of Dover and Roger McKinsey of Stewartstown; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Leroy, Mervin, Howard, and Dale McKinsey.
Following cremation, a Celebration of Life service will be held at her nephew's home, 2202 Keeney Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, with Evangelist Rhonda Carter officiating. The time of the service will be announced. Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to Serenity Hospice, 205 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.
