Rosalie Gayle Marie Francis Sundin
December 9th, 1952 – July 2nd, 2025
Rosalie Gayle Marie Francis Sundin passed away in 2025, leaving behind a legacy rich in culture, creativity, and love. Born in 1952 at a Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Rosalie lived a life deeply rooted in tradition and artistic expression.
A gifted artist, Rosalie specialized in Scandinavian traditional art, with a focus on rosemaling and dalamaling. Her work was not only beautiful but educational-through art shows and cultural events, she shared her knowledge and passion for Scandinavian heritage with the community.
Rosalie also had a sharp mind for technology. She was a network administrator and taught herself computer programming, a rare and impressive combination of creative and technical skill.
Deeply committed to helping others, she volunteered with Youth Diversion, where she supported and empowered women escaping abusive relationships. Her compassion touched many lives.
She was a proud member of the Twin Cities Sami Association, the National Sami Association, and loved the Walker Art Center and Guthrie Theater. Her interests extended to genealogy, doll making, and learning about world cultures, all of which inspired her creative work.
Rosalie adored animals-especially cats-but her beloved dog, Jasper, held a special place in her heart. She often said she didn't know who rescued who.
She found beauty in the little things, especially her favorite flowers: roses, lilies of the valley, alstromeria, carnations, and peonies.
Rosalie's greatest joy came from spending time with her family, sharing stories, traditions, and laughter. She leaves behind a legacy of love, art, and heritage that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Michael Sundin.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Conservation Minnesota.
