Born on May 27, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, Lena was the cherished daughter of an expansive Italian family, known for its vibrant traditions and close-knit bonds. In 1953, she met the love of her life Paul "Bugsy" Kanan. Together they shared an extraordinary 70 years of marriage and the joy of raising five children.
In addition to her beloved husband Paul, Lena is survived by her children; PJ, Michael (Sharon), Kathy Gudenau, Lee Ann (Joseph) Wasik. Her nurturing spirit extended to her role as a caring grandmother to Paul III, Dominic, Michael Jr., Brittney, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Peter Jr., Ryan, Darrell, Noah, Jacob, and Matthew, as well as 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward her enduring legacy. She will also be missed dearly by her loving and patient caregiver, Kanita.
Lena was predeceased by her son, Peter, son-in-law, Darrell Gudenau, and her siblings: Maria Saad, Peter Filiccia, Rose Filiccia, Dolly Thomas, Grace Morreale, Salvatore Filiccia, and Jimmy Filiccia, who now welcome her with open arms.
Throughout her well-lived life, Lena was surrounded by love, laughter, and family gatherings that were always plentiful with food. Her joy was evident during every holiday and special occasion. A remarkable golfer and bowler, Lena's friends and family will fondly remember her jubilant stories of her hole-in-one at Hillcrest Country Club.
Earlier in her life, Lena was an accomplished musician who brought life to the accordion and piano with her exceptional talent.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lena's life during a visitation at Wasik Funeral Home, Inc., 49150 Schoenherr Road (north of 22 Mile) Shelby Township on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Additional visitation will be held at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church, 43888 Hayes Road (north of 19 Mile) Clinton Township on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at the same location.

A beautiful woman and devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, mother in-law, and to all that shared wonderful bonds in knowing her . A friend to many with pure love in her heart. Condolences and may her memory be a blessing to touch she touched with her beautiful spirit.
