Rose Mary Aaberg, 80, of Albany Oregon, went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2024. Rose Mary passed away peacefully after a lengthy and progressive illness; many believe that she fought her passing so hard because she just did not want to leave her family who loved and supported her. For over a decade, she participated in weekly exercise classes and during these past few years she worked hard in Physical and Occupational Therapy. Rose Mary was born September 11, 1943, in the Canal Zone Panama. Her family relocated to the Red Bluff area in Northern California. She graduated from High School there and lived in California and Oregon for the better part of her early life.
Rose Mary married Jon Aaberg in 1985, and they left Mt. Shasta California two years later and relocated to live in Fairfield Ohio for a couple of years before picking up stakes and relocating to Diboll in Deep East Texas and remaining there in the Piney Woods for eleven years before returning to the Willamette Valley in early 2001.
She touched countless lives with her volunteer work at Kurth Elementary School in Lufkin Texas and at Central Elementary School here in Albany with their reading programs. During her youngest son's high school years, she volunteered and helped with the West Albany Band Program. In the office at West, she manned the phones to assist with improving student attendance at the high school.
As a member of Faith Lutheran Church, her volunteer work continued as part of the church council and an active member of their quilting, group cutting squares and tying quilts for needy causes locally and around the world for Lutheran World Relief. She worked many years in the kitchen at Faith along with other volunteers to feed members and guests on Wednesday evenings for a meal and fellowship time. She went on two volunteer disaster relief trips to assist the Gulf Coast residents after hurricane Katrina. Among her many other activities, she enjoyed gardening, creating stained glass projects, sewing and spending quality time with her family. She actively supported her husband's volunteer work with the Boy Scouts for over three decades.
Rose Mary loved to travel and see new sights. She travelled back to Panama to reconnect with her mother's relatives there and managed a trip to Scotland to view the ancestral home of her paternal grandfather. It didn't seem to matter how she traveled; the enjoyment was both in the journey along with the actual destination. The beautiful coast, the mountains and waterfalls always brought a smile to her face. Rose Mary was able to find beauty in every occasion, situation or location.
Rose Mary would want to thank her many friends and caregivers, from Northwest Rehabilitation Associates, Visiting Angels, Regency Albany, and all the kind souls from Samaritan Evergreen Albany Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Harry Bruce, and Rosa Maria Robertson, and adopted mom Aura Maria Robertson.
Rose Mary is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Jon Aaberg, children Scott (Laura) Wade, Tamie (David) Lamoreaux, Lorie (Randy) Warren, Robert (Christine) Wade, Christopher (Katie) Aaberg, and countless loving grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also, by sisters Margarite Fusaro, Linda Louallen, and several nieces and nephews.
Rose Mary, your presence may be gone, but your memory will always remain in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday September 28, 2024, at 2:00 pm, 930 Queen Ave SW Albany, OR 97321.
