Rose Brentner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Funeral Services on Jan. 20, 2025.
Rose E. Brentner
Rose E. Brentner, "Hoot", 91, formerly of Rockford, IL, and Mukwonago, died peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, at East Troy Manor after a long illness. Born June 25, 1933, in Dickeyville, WI to Ben and Gertie Timmerman. Rose grew up in Rockford, graduating from Muldoon High School in 1951. She worked for 18 years at the former Illinois National Bank as a general ledger bookkeeper, until retiring to raise her daughter after marrying Glen Brentner in 1969. When her father was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 1978, Rose took her parents into her home to provide supportive care during his final months. In 2003, she faced a dire prognosis herself, beating stage 4 colon cancer. In her later years, she loved watching her grandsons grow up. They gave her her first nickname, "Hoot", for the owl on her kitchen bird clock that hooted at noon. In 2020, Rose moved from her home of 50 years to live with her daughter in Mukwonago, where she enjoyed the company of her first-ever pets, Aeris the cat and Shadow the dog. Rose had a sharp memory and an incredibly generous heart. Longtime member of St. Rita's Catholic Church. Survived by her daughter Gretchen and son-in-law Brian Egner, grandsons Alex and Nick Egner, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Glen, her sisters-in-law, and dear cousins. The family is incredibly grateful to the staff at East Troy Manor and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate and personalized care. At Rose's wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy in Rose's honor.

I've been helping with church services at East Troy Manor for over 25 years. I have enjoyed getting to know Rose the past couple years and bringing some of my nieces and nephews to sing to her and play violins! She always had such a sharp mind and I was intrigued by a particular childhood story. She loved telling me how she was invited to a Bible Club as a child by one of her friends where she was introduced to and memorized John 3:16. She could still quote that to me and we talked many times about how it was possible for a person to know that they have eternal life. I will miss seeing her on Sundays and send my condolences to the family. Rose meant a lot to me!

Gretchen and family, I am so sorry to learn that you've lost Hoot. Although I never met her in person, I recall many stories that you shared about her through the years. I'm so glad she got to watch her grandsons grow up.
