Longtime Napa resident Rose Knezevich Eid passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2025 at the age of 98. She was born in Grass Valley, California on August 3, 1926 to Bozo and Julia Knezevich. Rose and her large family left Grass Valley when she was very young and moved to Napa. Rose graduated from Napa High School in 1944. Rose began her work career at an early age by picking prunes in the summer while attending Lincoln Elementary School. After graduating from high school, Rose took a job a Basalt Rock Company. She later attended Miss Lucy's Secretarial School and upon graduation started working for the County of Napa. Rose married Kurt Eid on July 1, 1951 and they were together for 66 years until Kurt passed away in February 2018. She was an avid homemaker and continued to maintain a wonderful home until her passing. Rose had a long and fulfilling life and was healthy until shortly before her passing. She was a loving wife and mother who worked hard to provide for her family. Rose was devoted to her mother and siblings, especially her brothers, Robert and John. Rose loved to travel and started at an early age. After graduating from Napa High School in 1944, she flew to Los Angeles with her best friend Faye. They had a great time but spent all of their money, requiring a return to Napa via a Greyhound bus! She celebrated the end of World War II by flying solo to Hawaii and visiting her brother Mitchell. Rose was an avid supporter of her children's sports and school interests. She cooked and baked to support them, which including her famous chili, cupcakes, orange bread and Kurt's favorite M&M cookies! Friends of her sons were always welcomed to dinner at the family table, including holidays. Together, Rose and Kurt enjoyed 25 years of square dancing and later ballroom dancing. They traveled extensively including a memorable trip to Europe, visiting long-lost relatives in Germany and France with Kurt returning to his childhood home. They loved cruising with close friends, Jean and Leroy Macler and sharing wonderful memories and pictures. Rose volunteered at every level with her children! She devoted herself to Fly League baseball, Cub Scouts, PTA and the Irene Snow Elementary School carnivals. She was honored with her role as President and long membership of the Rho Sigma Chi women's sorority. She was proud to be one of Copia's first volunteers when it opened in November, 2001. In her later years she enjoyed fellowship during her membership with the Napa Women's Club. Rose was an avid sports fan! She was dedicated to "my" Warriors, "my" 49ers and "my" Giants. She kibitzed daily with her dear friend and fellow Warrior's and Giant's fanatic, Lucy. Rose was a champion for all neighbors. She loved to congratulate the neighborhood kids when they made the honor roll, became involved in a sport, or simply came to say hello. The neighbors always welcomed Rose's motherly advice which she usually stated was from her own mother! She encouraged her adult friends to fully live their life - travel, connect with loved ones and never sweat the small stuff. She was a trusted confidant of her neighbors and friends who always welcomed her sage advice, frequently followed by a funny story. Rose and Kurt maintained their health and well-being by daily walks (Rose always in the lead), healthy nutrition, staying abreast of current events, and with positive outlooks on life. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Bozo and Julia, brothers, Mitchell, George, Pete, Chris, Robert and John, sisters, Melena and Mary, and niece Patricia (Dillon). She is survived by her son, Dennis, daughter-in-law Michelle, son Craig, nephews Erik and Paul, and nieces Sandi and Paula.
