Rose A. Hamill
Born: December 10, 1929 in Heidelberg, Germany
Died: July 10, 2025 in Dixon, IL
Our treasured "Oma", Rose A. Hamill, went peacefully to her heavenly home on July 10, 2025, at the age of 95.
Rose was born on December 10, 1929, in Heidelberg, Germany, and was the daughter of Josef and Elisabeth (Zobeley) Schwebler. Rose was trained as a beautician in Germany and later immigrated to the United States with her daughter in 1956, initially settling in Rockford. Rose's life changed in the very best way when she married her husband, Donald F. Hamill, on August 9, 1958. Together, they raised a daughter and two sons in Dixon. Rose continued working in the beautician trade and opened "Rose's Beauty Shop" which she operated from her home(s) in Dixon for more than 20 years.
Rose's passions were spending time with her family, gardening, and cooking. She was especially known for her German dishes, spaetzle and streuselkuchen. Rose had the gift of a green thumb and nurtured the most beautiful house plants and a large garden with colorful flower beds in her yard each summer. She enjoyed playing games with her family, and was quite competitive, especially with Uno, Bingo, and the German board game, Mensch ärgere Dich nicht. Rose never missed recognizing a birthday or holiday and was sure to send a card decorated with lots of stickers. In their younger years, Rose and Don enjoyed traveling the world together and spent their summers boating the Rock River on their pontoon; they also adored raising several beloved Dachshunds over the years. Rose was a woman of immense strength and devotion; she endured plenty throughout her long life and she did so with grace and tenderness. To know Rose was to love her.
Rose is survived by her son, Michael Hamill; daughter-in-law, Tawny Hamill; six grandchildren: Heidi (Robert) Hungate, Holly Larson, Mary "Krissy" Strub, Lynnay Hamill, Kale Hamill, and Stacia (TJ) Page; and seven great-grandchildren: Carrieanne Hungate, Cayleigh Hungate, Margaret Rose Larson, Aiden Hamill, Riley Miles, Maxxim Miles, and Aizley Hamill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Irmgard Giovanni, daughter Traute (Sam) Quinn, son Jeffrey Hamill, grandson-in-law Nicholas Strub, and great-granddaughter Delah Rose Page.
A private family service and burial will be held to honor Rose's life. Memorials in Rose' name can be make to Dixon in Bloom. Jones Funeral Home in Dixon completed the arrangements. Condolences can be left at
