Rose Henderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 9, 2025.
Rose Lois (Basham) Henderson, 98, departed this life peacefully at home under hospice care, surrounded by family, on November 26th, 2025. Mrs. Henderson was born March 17th, 1927, in Grove City, PA, a daughter of John and Annie (English) Basham. She attended Grove City Public Schools and upon graduation, relocated to Youngstown, OH, where she met Willie Clinton Henderson. They were married December 25th, 1946. To this union four daughters were born.

Mrs. Henderson worked and retired from Ohio Edison with over 21 years of service.

Mrs. Henderson was a faithful member of Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church where she served in several organizations: The Mass and Women's Day Choirs, Adult Usher Board, Willing Worker's Club. She served as a class leader, president of the Parent Body Missionary Department, receiving a plaque in 2017 for over 50 years of service. She was appointed the Akron District, Ohio Annual Conference Secretary of Supply for several years, followed by an appointment as the Life Members Chairman of the Women's Home & Overseas Missionary Society (WHOMS) of the A.M.E. Zion Church. She also served as a delegate for several of the Quadrennial Conferences held across the U.S.

Civically, she belonged to Church Women United, Protestant Family Services, as well as serving as an election worker for several years.

She enjoyed singing, playing her keyboard, decorating, shopping, traveling, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and helping others. Her motto was: "If I can help somebody as I pass along the way, then my living shall not be in vain."

She leaves to cherish her beloved memory; her daughters: Carolyn L. Jackson, Doranna E. (Larry) Speed, Deborah J, and Trucilla A. Henderson, with whom she made her home, all of Youngstown, OH. Mary E. Cummings, whom she reared, of Grove City, OH. Five grandsons: Alfred Jackson, Jr. of Washington, DC, Andre' (Tarrah) Jackson, Sr. of Charlotte, NC, Derrick (Yolanda) Williams of Texas, Darren (Yvette) Williams of Columbus, OH, Dion (Shameka) Williams of Grove City, OH. Three granddaughters: Kimberly Speed of Youngstown, OH, Rashaun Speed, of Boardman, OH, and Mary (Williams) McCulley of Columbus, OH. Three great-grandchildren: J'Maira Stevens of Boardman, OH, Andre' Jackson, Jr. and Evan Jackson of Charlotte, NC, and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Elijah Basham, Ethel Basham, Julia (Basham) Miller, William Basham, Ferdinand Basham, James Basham, Herbert Basham, and Marie (Millberry) Henderson.

Special thank you to Patriot At Home Hospice and Angel Care Medical Supply.
