We are sad to announce the passing of Rose (Rosa) Teresa Gonzalez, “Terri”, of Lorain, Ohio. Terri passed away at the age of 80 on February 2, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
Terri was born to Nemesio Ramos Velez and Modesta Lopez de Velez on August 24, 1943, in Lares, Puerto Rico. She arrived in the United States in 1948 and settled in Lorain, Ohio.
A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lorain, Ohio, Terri, lovingly known as “Ma”, “Grandma”, “Grandma Dulce” or “Wella” will be remembered as a strong, independent, family matriarch devoted to elevating futuring generations into prosperity and wellness in accordance with God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11 where the Lord says, “For I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper and not to harm, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Always wearing a bright beautiful smile, when Terri was not surrounded by her loved ones, she displayed incredible talent in crocheting elaborate blankets and dresses, avid gardening often creating Gardens of Eden from seeming wastelands. She surrounded herself with beauty and life with family, gardens, crafts, and pets including her beloved dogs Coco, Sunny, Ruby, and a vivacious cockatoo, “Teddy.” She made healing soul food for all, and always had a welcoming pot of coffee going. She loved to play cards, watch true crime shows, telenovelas, and lots of I Love Lucy with her daughter Meli.
Terri is now reunited with her daughter Emilia “Meli” Gonzalez, who preceded her in death.
Terri is survived by four of her children: Tomas (Jackie), Amalia, Adam (Maureen), Richard (Kim) and former daughter-in-law Karen Gonzalez. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Elena, Tomas, Angelique, Sarah, and Emilio, her five great-grandchildren: Tomas, Amalia, Lily, Caleb, and Tominic, and by her siblings Anna “Zorri” Lopez, Louis Manuel and Gilbert “Gimbie” Velez.
