Rose Shirley Obituary

Rose Shirley, went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2024, at age of 90. Born on July 26, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky, Rose lived a life rich with faith, family, and love.

A remarkable woman devoted to her family, Rose’s greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren. Her heart swelled with pride as she nurtured a legacy that now includes 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carries a piece of her warmth and wisdom, a reflection of the deep connections she cherished throughout her life.

Rose was not just a family figure; she was also a spiritual beacon for many. She immersed herself in scripture, drawing strength and inspiration from her faith, and became a powerful spiritual influence to her family, guiding them with her boundless love and unwavering support.

Her loss is deeply felt by her surviving family: her children, Michael (Beverly) Shirley, Deborah (Jerry) Keeling, Eddie (Donna) Shirley, Cynthia (Shannon) Van Ness and Karen (Carlos) Schlenker; and her brother, Ronald Ernspiker. Rose is also mourned by her best friend and soulmate, Mary Ann Vangieson, who stood by her side through life's many seasons. Their bond was a testament to the beauty of friendship.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence E. Shirley, Sr., their daughter and son, Linda Hicks and Lawrence Shirley, Jr. Rose’s siblings, who have also passed, include her brother, William Ernspiker, Jr., and sisters, Cora Moore, Lena Beeson, Pauline Harlow, and Nancy Mutter. The love shared amongst them continues to shine brightly in the lives of all who knew them.

As we celebrate the life of Rose Shirley, we remember a woman who exemplified love, grace, and faith.
