WINSTED –

Rose Mary Surdam, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026. She was the loving wife of William Surdam who passed away in 1979. Born September 1, 1932 in Winsted; the daughter of the late Salvatore and Roselia (Columbi) DiCara.

Rose Mary worked for Dano Electric as a Purchasing Agent and then for H & R Block as a Senior Tax Preparer for many years. She volunteered and was Director at the Auxiliary for Community Health Thrift Shop. She was a member of the Italian American Women's Club and both Winsted and Torrington Senior Centers. She enjoyed many activities at the senior centers.

Rose Mary loved to travel and enjoyed square and line dancing. She also loved watching game shows and playing cards. She was a strong, independent woman who loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her two daughters, Margaret "Peg" of Winsted and Deborah "Debbie" Meeks of VA; grandchildren, William "Bill" Nash of Windsor and Rose "Rosie" Nash of China, Chris Meeks and Ashley Meeks, both of VA; 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased her siblings, Philip DiCara, C. John DiCara, Sr. Mary Angela DiCara, Antoinette DiCara and Elizabeth "Betty" Germon.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at St. Joseph Church, Winsted at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Winsted. There will be no calling hours. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted has care of the arrangements. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.
