Torrington – Benjamin H. Surdam, 91, passed away on December 19, 2024 at Valerie Manor. He had previously lived at Willow Gardens. Ben was the husband of the late Grace (Bailey) Surdam. He was born on December 10, 1933 in Winsted, Connecticut to the late William and Margaret (Dietlin) Surdam.
Ben Served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956.
He retired from the Town of Litchfield where he had worked as a truck driver for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He also loved watching old Westerns and playing Bingo.
Ben is survived by his four grandchildren; Tammy Martin, Thomas Mellott, Joseph Haag and Tina Runk, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great- grandson a brother, Irving Surdam, a sister, Beatrice Surdam and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Stoddard, son Michael Surdam, brother, William Surdam and sisters, Betty (Surdam) Annechario and Florence (Surdam) Pisiakowski.
Calling hours will be held on December 27 at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Bantam Cemetery.
