Rosemary (Rosie) Eva Cowan
February 22, 1941 - October 22, 2025
Rosemary Eva (Rosie Beach) Cowan passed from this world to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 22, 2025, at the age of 84.
She was born in Hays, Kansas, on February 22, 1941, to Glenn and Eva Beach of WaKeeney, Kansas.
She is survived by her husband Wendell of 63 years, by son, Stanley and his wife, Sherry Cowan and their three children: daughter, Sydney (husband, Jordan Bolt), son, Sawyer (wife, Mackenzie), and son, Samson. Rosie's also survived by son, Steven and his wife, Melissa Cowan and their three children: daughter, Grace (husband, Joshua), son, Grant and daughter, Joy.
Rosie is also survived by her sister, Barbara Mace and her brother, Ray Beach along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Rosie in death were her parents and two older siblings, Glenda Moore and Rex Beach.
Growing up in WaKeeney, Kansas, Rosie was active in cheerleading, FHA, Student Council, 4-H and church activities including being honored as Queen of Job's Daughters.
One of Rosie's loves of life was music, both instrumental (percussion and bassoon) and vocal (earning #1 ratings from 6th grade through Senior year). After receiving a scholarship to attend Wesleyan College in Salina, Kansas in 1959, Rosie majored in vocal music performance and sang in the Philharmonic Choir as a soloist all four years, earning the Outstanding Music Award in 1963, graduating with her Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree that same year. This is where she met her future husband Wendell Cowan, marrying him June 10, 1962.
She extended her love of music by incorporating it into 16 of her 24 years of teaching at Bennington Schools (three years) and Kindergarten at Whitewater Elementary (21 years), and also by singing in the Valley Center Sweet Adeline Chorus for many years. After retiring from teaching, she also continued directing and singing in church choirs.
Gardening was also a passion of Rosie's, raising large flower gardens and sharing starter gardens with family, friends and neighbors in all of her neighborhoods for decades. She also had a knack for easily finding 4-leaf clovers.
Rosie spent her later years in
Lucas, Kansas volunteering her time and talents with many organizations including the Grassroots Arts Center and also by traveling with husband, Wendell, for many years across the nation in their RV.
Many people benefitted by Rosie's giving nature. Whether it was her time, talents, flowers or other hand-made crafts of butterflies and rainbows, Rosie showed love by constantly giving to her family, friends, and even strangers she just met.
