Surrounded and strengthened by the love of the many lives she touched over her 96 years, Rosemary Schorse peacefully entered eternity on 07/26/2025. She let go of the earthly body that had increasingly held her back in recent years.
Rosemary was born on July 1, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Florence (Birkholz) and Leo M. Rausch. The youngest of three children, she graduated from Custer High School then continued her education at Milwaukee State Teachers College where she earned her bachelor's degree in education. From there she began her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher at Carlton Primary School.
She met her future husband, Richard (Dick) Schorse, on a blind date. They married on June 27, 1957, and shared a happy life together until Dick's passing in 2002. Rosemary stepped away from teaching when she and Dick started their family, dedicating herself fully to raising their four children.
Rosemary was an active and generous member of her community. Her roles included PTA volunteer, Boy Scout den mother, Girl Scout troop leader, CCD instructor, Catholic school board member, Sigma member, Ladies of the Elks (president), Church Choir, Senior Center Linettes, and Red Hat Society Queen Bee in Fond du Lac. In 2006, she was honored with the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Fond du Lac County award for her years of volunteer efforts. Beyond organizations, her most meaningful service came from one-on-one support-driving, grocery shopping, delivering meals, and helping neighbors in need. Those blessed to find themselves in Rosemary's "orbit" experienced her loving and helpful nature. Her deep Catholic faith was evident in the care and compassion she extended to others.
She was devoted to her family - tirelessly nurturing them in practical ways throughout her life. She was fun-loving with a quick smile and a laugh. Rosemary was always ready for family and friends to turn off the television, put phones aside and join in a friendly board game. She would also haul out ancient toys for grandchildren to play with and be a listening and loving ear as they grew from children to young adults. The great grandchildren were an extra blessing Rosemary enjoyed in her very senior years.
Rosemary loved decorating for every holiday-not only her home, but her clothing and jewelry, too. She delighted in having friends and family visit, and she always kept a generous stash of chocolate and treats on hand for guests.
One of Rosemary's deepest wishes was to remain in her own home as long as possible. With the support of a team of wonderful caregivers, she was able to do so well into her 95th year. In January 2025, her health needs required additional care, and she moved to Touchstone Assisted Living Center, where she spent her final months.
Rosemary is survived by her children: John (Vicki) Schorse of Oshkosh, Mark (Carolyn) Schorse of Florida, Chris Schorse of Milwaukee, and Mary Schorse of Delaware. In addition, Rosemary is survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
While Rosemary had many charities she supported over the years, her heart always stayed close to home. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or the Fond du Lac Senior Center.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth St Way, Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Estabrooks Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
