Rosie Spann Bridges

Rosie Spann Bridges was born May 5, 1937, in Rankin County, Mississippi, as the fifth child to the late James Spann and Bertha Byrd Spann. She transitioned unto the Lord on November 18, 2021, after a brief illness. Her parents, three sisters, and three brothers preceded her in death.
Rosie attended Rankin County Schools, and graduated from McCall High School as salutatorian of her class. She attended classes to become a licensed cosmetologist at Langston Cosmetology School in Jackson, MS. Rosie later attended Hinds Junior College and Modesto Junior College, where she obtained certifications as a certified nursing assistant and in home health services.
Rosie had a gift to care for others in both her professional career and personal life. In Mississippi, she was employed with Hudspeth Retardation Center. In 1984, Rosie relocated to Modesto, California to care for her oldest sister and assist her in operating Ossie's Family Care. At Ossie's Family Care, Rosie cared for mentally and physically challenged adults. During her time in California and after retiring in 2005, Rosie returned home several times to care for her mother and siblings. She also helped raise two special nephews, Gregory Spann and James Spann III.
Rosie accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Early King. Rosie later joined Greater Fairview Baptist Church in Jackson, MS, during the time Reverend S.L. Spann served as pastor. She joined Second Baptist Church in Modesto, California, under the leadership of Dr. Charles Evins, and she restored her membership with Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church this year, where she was offered the right hand of fellowship by Pastor Dr. Ava S. Harvey. Rosie worked out her soul salvation through the years by being a faithful member of many church auxiliaries, including the choir, Sunday School, and mission. Rosie served God by serving others through personal care, cooking, and sharing God's Word through song.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one brother, George Spann of Pelahatchie, Mississippi; five nephews: Scottie (Alycia) Irvin, James (Charmaine) Spann III, Gregory Spann, Timothy (Patricia) Spann, and George (Twanna) Spann, Jr. and four nieces: Sheron (Michael) Spann Bailey, Betty (Larry) Wilson-McSwain, Sabrina Spann, and Ashley (Samuel) Johnson; special friends in Modesto, California, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
