Rowland Lloyd Thomas Jr., known to many as Lloyd, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 88. His life was one of dedication to his family, community, and passions, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on February 18, 1937, in Phoenix, Arizona to Rowland Lloyd Sr. and Lola Mae (Quinn) Thomas. Growing up, Lloyd lived in Atlanta, GA, Havana, Cuba and Dallas, TX. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas later continuing his education at Tulane University, Southern Methodist University and the University of Arizona. On December 28, 1959, he married Joey Lynne (Dora) Thomas, in Globe, Arizona, embarking on a beautiful journey together that would span more than fifty years.
Following school, Lloyd enjoyed a successful career with the Arizona Department of Transportation, where he worked for more than 30 years. Lloyd and Joey Lynne eventually relocated to Albert Lea to be closer to family. Lloyd was a man who always put his family first and embraced each day with joy and purpose.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Lloyd was an avid fan of football and baseball. His love for sports became a way for him to bond with friends and family. He loved attending his children and grandchildren’s activities.
Lloyd is survived by his son: Cory (Johanna) Thomas; his grandchildren Kelsey (Ike) Curley, Eric “EJ” (Anna Andersen) Thomas, and Andy (Anna Olfelt) Thomas along with extended family Matt (Irene) Olivero, Fuzzy (Pat) Dora, and Joe (Carol) McGee, and many more.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joey Lynne and son John Gregory Thomas. Lloyd's family would like to send a special message of gratitude to the team at St. John's Lutheran Community where he made many friends with the residents and staff.
Lloyd will be laid to rest next to his wife in Globe, Arizona.
Lloyd’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those that got the chance to know him and be loved by him. May he rest in peace.
