Roxanne Porter Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kepner Funeral Home - Elm Grove on Nov. 22, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roxanne Porter, who lost her all-too-short battle with cancer at the age of 68. Roxanne was a remarkable woman whose presence lit up every room she entered.
She was a devoted wife, an extraordinary mother, and a fierce advocate for her community. Roxanne raised three strong, resilient daughters, teaching them to stay determined, make a difference, and shine in their unique ways. Her love and guidance will live on in their accomplishments and the many lives they touch.
Roxanne shared a profound and enduring love with her soulmate, Ken. Their bond was rooted in over 60 years of friendship and 48 years of marriage. Together, they embraced life with a shared sense of adventure and wanderlust. Whether camping under the stars, exploring Ireland, England, Scotland, Spain, Mexico, and the Caribbean, marveling at the beauty of Alaska and National Parks, or simply enjoying the warmth of Florida's sandy shores, their "Home Sweet Home" was always wherever they roamed. It seemed like everywhere they went, they either reconnected with old friends or made new ones, leaving behind cherished memories with everyone they met.
Roxanne's daughters carry forward her incredible legacy. They share her mother's love of animals, always opening her heart and home to rescues. Roxanne had a fierce yet tiny chihuahua, Annie, by her side for years.
They were also all inspired by their mother's career in nursing. Roxanne spent years caring for others in ICU and CCU at Butler and Wheeling Hospitals before finding her work family in the Emergency Room and with the HealthNet Flight teams at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Throughout her career, she guided countless colleagues in the medical profession. She was a model of kindness, strength, and unwavering values, always making others feel cared for. To Kerri, and the so many others she mentored, Roxanne was both a role model and an inspiration-a privilege to follow in her footsteps.
Despite her many commitments, Roxanne always found time to give back to her community. Personal time was generously gifted to Camp Kno-Koma of West Virginia as a cabin nurse, board member, and anything else they needed. The Dallas Volunteer Fire Department also went above and beyond in reciprocating care for her, and many other organizations benefitted from Roxanne's service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to Stepping Stones of Morgantown, WV, to support the amazing programs they offer. https://www.steppingstoneswv.org/donate/
She is survived by her loving husband, Ken; her three daughters, Kristin (Kane, Corson), Kathleen, and Kerri (Adlei, Sullivan); her mother, Charlotte (Richard, deceased); and her sister, Eileen (Jamee, Julie). She will be deeply missed by so many and forever remembered as someone who changed lives everywhere she touched. We miss you so much already, Rocky.
