Roy Don Chick

Roy Don Chick, 73, of Wheeler, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. A celebration of Roy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Cornerstone Church in Wheeler.

Cremation and arrangements are entrusted to Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.

Roy was born on January 2, 1953, in Shamrock, Texas, to Rosalee Shirey Atwood and was lovingly raised by Walter "Sox" Atwood and Rosalee. He grew up surrounded by strong family values, a deep work ethic, and a love for community that stayed with him throughout his life. In June 1972, Roy married the love of his life, Dixie DeArment, in Wheeler, Texas. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and friendship.

Roy graduated from Wheeler High School, where his athletic talent and competitive spirit were already evident. He went on to attend Eastern New Mexico State University on a football scholarship, an experience that reflected both his dedication and love of sports. Although life took him briefly to Pampa, Amarillo, and the Walker Ranch, Wheeler was always home. After marrying Dixie, they raised their children there, deeply connected to the community Roy cherished.

Roy spent most of his professional career working for Texaco Exploration and Production as a Field Service Electrician, a role that showcased his skill, reliability, and problem-solving nature. He later owned and operated Chick Electric, earning the respect of many through his honest work and commitment to quality. Roy also served the State of Texas as an Electrical Engineer for the Texas Department of Corrections, retiring after ten years of dedicated service.

An athlete at heart, Roy loved competition and camaraderie. He played softball and volleyball for many years, traveling across the Texas Panhandle with friends to compete. Yet, it was golf that became his greatest sporting passion. A proud member of the Shamrock Country Club for 50 years, Roy relished the challenge of the game, but even more so, the friendships it fostered. Through golf, Roy built countless meaningful relationships, each one treasured and remembered fondly.

Above all else, Roy's greatest joy was his family. His unconditional love, quiet strength, and unwavering support were gifts he gave freely. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply loving grandfather. The legacy he leaves behind is one of loyalty, kindness, hard work, and genuine connection.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mitchell, Roy's physician for more than 30 years, Dr. Diegus, and the compassionate staff at BSA Amarillo for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Roy and his family.

Roy was preceded in death by his sisters LaNell Wyatt and Carol Preston, his brother J.C. Brooks, his parents, and his parents-in-law Richard "Dick" DeArment and Jean DeArment.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dixie Chick of Wheeler; his children, Brandon and Lauren Chick of Spring Branch, Texas; Corby and Keaton Fails of Amarillo; and Makenzie Chick of Wheeler; his cherished grandchildren, Jaxon Chick, Kason Fails, Thomas Chick, Lilly Chick, and Cameron Fails; his sister, Nancy Brown of Mountain View, Oklahoma; and his brothers, Dan Atwood of Beaver, Oklahoma, and Roger Atwood of Alvord, Texas.

"Chick" will be remembered for his generous heart, competitive spirit, steadfast faith, and the countless lives he touched. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the community he so dearly loved.
